Dargen, 1864

Tobias looked down at the large town in front of them. They would be safe there. The townspeople barred the soldiers, and welcomed villagers from Garanham. They still had to get out of the Canyon and past the small group of soldiers waiting for them, though.

Katherine stood at the highest peak in town, and saw two strangers approaching from the west.

ic: Tobias winced as he felt something stirring inside him, and glanced back the way they'd come. Sunset. "Lily, go. Now!" he whispered desperately. Lily glanced at the sun and nodded, taking Adam and Agatha back the way they'd come.

Katherine stirred in surprise as some of the party turned and hurried back the way they had come. She watched in interest to see what the one remaining figure was going to do.

Tobias glanced at the sunset and pulled a face. This part never got any easier. He had about a second to notice that there was a woman from the town watching him, then the intense pain drove him to his knees. As the sun carried on setting the pain started getting worse and worse, more and more agonizing, and it was all Tobias could do to keep himself from screaming. If he screamed, Lily would come back. He grunted with the pain as his shadow slowly, almost tauntingly, detached itself from the ground and latched onto him.

Katherine gave a shriek of surprise as the figure distorted in shape. She shouted for Pearl, who appeared at her side. "What's wrong?!"
Katherine pointed, and Pearl gasped at the shadowy shape at the top of the hill. They lost sight of it as the sky turned black and there was no moon there to illuminate it.

Tobias opened his blazing red eyes and glared at the soldiers, concealing himself in the night's shadows and stalking towards them. They were completely oblivious to his being there.

Tobias glared at the soldiers, who didn't even know he was there. He could sense that there were people who were afraid of him, coming up there from Dargen. They'd seen him change, most likely. Unable to resist the blood-lust anymore, he launched himself at the soldiers. He could feel, in the part of his mind where the man was, Tobias thinking he'd have to lead Lily another way when he got back to her in the morning.

"Should we help them?" Katherine asked. She knew what Stefan would do, and for his sake, she jumped in between the Shadowy monster and the soldiers. "Katherine!" Pearl shouted. Katherine launched at the monster, only to find herself sailing through it. She resumed her earlier position, fangs bared. "Pearl - grab the soldiers and run, the ones you cant' take, i will." Armed with three soldiers they both tore off down the hill. "Whatever your planning, you're going to regret it." Pearl said. Katherine smiled.

Tobias gave a roar of anger and ran after the two women who had taken the soldiers. This was starting to get interesting.

Katherine and Pearl both flinched as the demon roared. Quick as lightening flashes, they zipped around town, making sure they weren't seen. They knocked on a door of a house that someone they trusted lived inside and dumped the soldiers on the door step. Then they carried on running.

Tobias caught the two scents splitting up and skidded to a halt. Which to follow? He sniffed at the air. One was moving. He'd catch the owners of that scent first, then go back for the unconscious soldiers. They wouldn't be going anywhere. He drew the shadows around himself, making him completely invisible, and ran like a bullet from a gun after the two women, if that was what they were.

Terrified, Katherine ran frantically, and found her self in an abandoned warehouse. "Katherine!" Someone hissed, making her jump. She saw Pearl, and they hurriedly found separate places where they could hide and both see each other.

Tobias had slowed to a walk by the time he reached the warehouse. He stepped inside and slammed the door shut behind him. It was the only way in, and since there weren't any windows, everything was in complete darkness. The two women wouldn't be able to see anything, but he was in his element. He sniffed the air, catching their scents. He would play with them first.

Despite the darkness, both Pearl and Katherine could see perfectly.They were vampires, after all. They waited silently, not daring to breath.

Tobias blended into the shadows, making himself vanish from any and all sight. He knocked down a crate near to the two women and dashed to the other side of the room.

They were both scared.

ic: Tobias knocked down another crate right next to them and darted quickly round to their other side. He got there before the crate even crashed against the ground.

Katherine screamed in unison with Pearl. If she had a heart she knew it would be thundering against her rib cage with enough strength th break her bones - lucky she didn't have a heart. They both jumped onto their feet and darted outside the warehouse at the speed of light. They rushed into a bar, where people scurried around thr place like ants. They both doubted that the monster would dare come in here with this many people around.

Tobias chased after the two women, not daring to show himself through the shadows. He followed them silently into the bar, creeping up behind them.

He won't attack us here. Katherine thought. She looked at Pearl and they nodded at eachother. "Act natural." Katherine said, "And whilst you're at it, get me a drink."

Tobias grabbed the two women, the act instantly engulfing them in his shadows. Now nobody else could see them. He could see them, they couldn't see him. He dragged them backwards, out of the bar and slammed them both against the wall, sniffing at them.

Katherine resisted the urge to scream. She kicked and punched but it did no good.

Tobias tilted his head and allowed himself to be seen to them, though no one else could see any of them. He wanted them to at least see what killed them.
